Kenzo and the Chinese New Year: a great occasion to celebrate and raise awareness about saving tigers

Chinese New Year is one of the most important days of the year, not only for people in China, but also for oriental astrologers and experts in metaphysics. After all, it is a beautiful tradition and an opportunity to improve one's life. All the rituals performed on this holiday have extraordinary power and the wishes expressed on this magical night will undoubtedly come true.

According to the Chinese calendar, 2022 is the Year of the Tiger. The Chinese New Year will begin on 1 February 2022. Traditionally, celebrations last 16 days. In 2022, the Chinese New Year will last from 31 January (New Year's Day) to 15 February (Lantern Festival).
New Year's Eve in China is the main holiday and a great occasion to be together with the whole family. The Chinese themselves call the New Year 'Spring Festival' and its history goes back more than 4,000 years.

The Tiger: the symbol of 2022. But what does it mean?

Bright and full of events: this is exactly what the year under the sign of the Tiger will be like. The colour blue in the East is considered one of the most unpredictable, which means we must be ready for change.
The Tiger is a rebellious and stubborn animal: when you are around it, you have to keep your eyes open. It is curious, loves to be interested in new things and fears nothing.
According to the Eastern calendar, the Year of the Tiger will officially start on 1 February, and many fashion brands have already prepared unique packages for the Chinese celebration, obviously with the symbol of the year.
Even if you're not interested in this tradition, that's no reason to ignore the tiger print, the trend for next spring-summer season.

The use of the tiger in high fashion and sustainability

Along with tiger issues and trends, it is important to ensure the animal's safety.
Did you know that since the beginning of the 20th century, the world's population of wild tigers has declined by more than 95% and conservationists estimate that there are only about three thousand left? The reason for this is rampant poaching, which endangers not only the lives of striped predators but the health of the entire ecosystem and wildlife in general.
The TX2 project, which is actively involved in the World Wide Fund for Nature, has been involved in helping to stop the catastrophe. WWF's goal is to double the tiger population by 2022. The timing of the project was not chosen at random, as the Tiger itself symbolises 2022.
It's 2022 and global brands are traditionally showering everyone with red and gold capsules for Chinese New Year. Well-known designers such as Balenciaga celebrated the symbol with the Orange Levi's striped denim collection in collaboration with Hong Kong brand CLOT. Prada designed a campaign, 'Action in the Year of the Tiger', to draw attention to the tiger population problem, a fundraiser for nature conservation organisations and a challenge for young artists.

Kenzo: A permanent symbol

Kenzo is the leader of 'tiger fashion', as the head of the Tiger has been in the brand's DNA for a long time. The tiger symbolises strong energy, nature as a primary source of inspiration and the spirit of the Japanese jungle. Although tigers have never been found in Japan itself, the veneration of this animal comes from China along with Buddhism and was rooted in the code of the samurai.
The collaboration is part of a broad partnership between KENZO and WWF. The brand is working on sustainability: reducing water consumption in production and releasing items from recycled cotton. The entire range of tiger prints has made sure to donate $10 from sales directly to the Tiger Rescue Program since its launch in 2020.

The second launch was on 22 March 2021. The collection features a new tiger motif on essentials including sweatshirts, t-shirts and tank tops. All styles are made from 100% organic cotton certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
For every item sold, Kenzo pledges to donate $10 towards TX2's ambitious goal of doubling the number of tigers in the wild by 2022. The collaboration is part of a broader partnership between Kenzo and WWF, making the cotton supply chain more resilient and preserving freshwater supplies.

Between celebration and preservation

The Year of the Tiger is not only an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in tiger print trends and a way for brands to earn money, it is also an appropriate reason to draw attention to a critical issue concerning tigers themselves. So celebrate the Year of the Tiger and support a good cause. You can do this by buying Kenzo items made from 100% organic cotton.
